STATE FAIR OF TEXAS AG PRODUCT ID CONTEST

The Texas Agriculture Product Identification Contest will be held in Dallas on October 8 at 9:00 am.   Registration information can be found here: http://www.bigtex.com/sft/LiveStock/Contests.asp. All 4-H members are welcome to register online with an entry fee of $10 per team. This deadline is  Tuesday, August 25. Please contact the County Extension Office (972) 932-9069 or check out the Texas 4-H Information page at  http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/agriculture_products for more information.  This is a team and an individual type contest.  Heads up though... you need to have the Texas Quality Counts Verification done.  For more information on QC Verification please go to http://agrilife.org/qualitycounts/verification/

What exactly is this "Ag ID Contest" ... Well
20 Texas agricultural products are selected and exhibited at separate stations. Contestants select the correct identification of each product from four possible answers. Following, the product identification, each station has one multiple choice question pertaining to the product on display. Questions can be general to the industry that produced the product, (i.e. Texas’ national ranking, economic impact to Texas, general nutritional content, region of production) and specific to the individual product that is on display (i.e. cooking method, use, growing season, specific nutrition of the cut or variety). Contestants are given 40 seconds at each station to answer both questions. Please refer to the Product list for suggested products and the resource guide for study materials. Products and resources are listed in the samples rules and the Agricultural Products Manual.

Great fun... Lets go try it out.

ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2013-2014 TEXAS 4-H YEAR STARTS AUGUST 15TH!

Texas 4-H is! Starting at 12:01 am on August 15th, 4-H members in Texas can start enrolling for the 2013-2014 year.  Participation fees will remain the same for the 2013-2014 year, $20.00 from August  15th to October 31st and then $25.00 from  November 1st on.  Here are some things to remember as you  e-enroll for the 2013-2014 4-H year:
 • If you have forgotten your e-mail address or password - DO NOT create another profile in 4-H CONNECT.  Call your county office and they can help get you logged in!
•  IF you were one of the Record book award winners you have received a scholarship for re-enrollment.  You received an award certificate on the back of your award
• If you are 8 and in the 3rd grade and enrolling in 4-H WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 1st to enroll! It is tricky because the official first day of 4-H is not until September 1st but enrollment starts August 15th. This means there are 15 days for our new (young) members where they may not be assess a participation fee and 4-H CONNECT will classify them as a Clover Kid. Therefore, have them wait
until September 1st.
•Club Managers we will be discussing this on Thursday Night.  If you have any questions, Please email Carrie!!!  cl-sharp@tamu.edu

State 4-H Roundup Logo Contest

Over the past four years 4-Hers have had the opportunity to create and design the theme and logo for Texas 4-H Roundup. Each year this has been the brand of Texas 4-H Roundup. More than 250 entries have been sent in during this time.
4-H Faculty have decided to change things up a bit for the 2014 Texas 4-H Roundup. This year youth will only have to provide a theme. However, to add some meaning behind it we are asking youth to provide either a youtube video talking about their theme or a 100 essay on the importance of it.
For more on these changes check out the Texas 4-H website.
http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/roundup
The deadline for all submissions is September 25th.
