We are excited to invite you and your students to participate in the Kaufman County Youth Hay Judging Contest, taking place on Monday, October 28th at 4:00 PM at the Kaufman County Fairgrounds.
This fun and educational contest is open to individuals or teams of 3–4 participants and will include hands-on learning in hay judging, plant ID, and forage knowledge.

Location: Kaufman County Fairgrounds
Cost: $5 per participant (includes a BBQ meal)
Contest Components
- Multiple Choice Exam – Hay production, forage quality, and feeding value
- Plant Identification – Up to 30 common forage and pasture plants
- Hay Judging – 3 classes evaluated for leafiness, texture, color, and overall quality
Advisor Incentive – $500 Departmental Stipend
To support and reward your participation, one $500 departmental stipend will be awarded to a participating Ag Science program.
Selection may be based on participation level, student performance, or a random drawing—details will be shared at the event.
Registration
We ask that Ag Science Teachers and 4-H Advisors complete registration on behalf of their students or teams.
