Leadership Lab UlTra

The Leadership Lab UlTra deadline is fast approaching for Intermediates grade 6-8 and Seniors grade 9-12 members.

Leadership Lab UlTra will be held at the Lone Star Baptist encampment this year in Lone Star, Texas.

4-H Record Book and Awards application information

Record Book Workshop
Record book workshop will be on May 19th, at 6:30 pm for “Introduction to Record Books” hosted by the Livestock Project Club at the county fairgrounds.  

June 4th Assistance with Record books at the Extension office from 9 am – 12 p.m.
Record Books/Memory Books and Member Achievement Plans – Deadline June 17th
Project Record books and Annual Banquet Award applications are due June 17th to the county Extension office.  Information and help guides can be found on:  http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/recordbooks/

If your club would like a program on completing the project record books give the Extension office a call to set up a help date.

District ULTRA Leadership Camp 2016



This year’s District Leadership Camp will be held on July 5-7th, at Lone Star.  Registration deadline is June 15th. It will be 2.5 days of fun and excitement!! Hold these dates and look for more information to come!!! Deadline to register is June 15th on 4H Connect.

District Horse Judging
Keller McDougald, Mary Beth Beam and Dally Creech placed 2nd Overall team, 1st Overall team in reasons. Keller was 1st individual in reasons, Dally was 2nd individual in reasons and 3rd overall individual and Mary Beth was 3rd individual in reasons and 4th overall.  Great Job Team!

4-H Multi County Camp – July 11-13



Planning for the Multi County Camp in Lone Star, Texas is once again started.  This year a full three days of fun are centered on the Theme – “ 4-H Grows.”  Come have fun with 4-H’ers from 6 other District IV counties.  4-H’ers from 8 in 3rd Grade to 18 has fun at the Lake front camp. Registration is $115.00 for 3 days and 2 nights of fun and activities.  (Registration is Due May 25th.)

Poultry Showing Opportunities for State Fair and Spring Majors

If you are interested in showing broilers at the 2016 State Fair of Texas your orders need to be turned into the Extension office by June 25th.

Junior Market Turkey Division

If you are interested in showing turkeys at the 2016 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo the deadline for ordering birds is July 8, 2016.  Contact the Extension office to order your birds or for more information.

VERY COOL CONTESTS!!! Most have two divisions. 

Newest One! The Youth Cooking contest has two youth divisions, Junior (Age 12-17 yrs) and Children’s (Age6-11 yrs).  Junior division can choose between Candy, Cake and Cookies.  Children’s division can choose between Cookies and Candy.

2016 State Fair of Texas Creative Arts Competition

2016 State Fair of Texas Creative Arts Competition
The State Fair offers more then 1,100 categories in 12 departments to be entered and judged before the fair begins on September 30th, 2016.  The Fair also offers 24 daily contest during the annual exposition.

There are two ways to enter. 
  1. IN PERSON – deadline to mail your entry form and fee is Friday, July 22, 2016.  An entry receipt will be mailed or emailed to you.  Bring that receipt and your entry item to the Creative Arts Building on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, August 12th, 13th, or 14th, from 9 am to 5 pm.  If your receipt does not arrive in time to bring with you, bring entries in anyway.
  2. BY MAIL – deadline to mail in your entry form, fee, and return-mail postage is Friday, July 22, 2016.

After judging, all exhibitors will be notified of their entry’s status via mail or email.  Also, keep an eye on www.bigtex.com where they post all the judging results.  Entries that are awarded ribbons will be on display in the creative arts building during the entire run of the Fair.

NEW!! to the 2016 Regional Horse Show
On Monday night June 13th at the Henderson County Fairgounds in Athens Texas there will be Barrel Racing and Pole Bending Practice starting at 6 pm for $5 per run

Also, they will host a Trail class practice starting at 6 pm where the actual trail patterns for the next days trail classes will be set for exhibitors to see and ride over the course.  The practice will cost $10 for 15 minutes to be in the arena on the course.  Only 5 horses will be allowed in each time slot, so plenty of room to practice the course.  In addition someone from the show will be in the arena to help with figuring out the obstacles.  You do not have to be entered in the class to practice the Trail class.

Validation Dates and Times for Kaufman County

Below is the times and dates for the Validations for the State Fair Market Lamb, State Fair Market Goat, Fall show Heifers and Major Steers.  If you have a major time conflict on one of these dates you need to contact the office soon!  Junior Heifers need to have their papers transferred into the youths name by validation time!!

2016 State Fair of Texas
State Fair of Texas will be held September 30 – October 23, 2016.  If you bought a tag for the State Fair Goat and Lamb shows we will be tagging on June 23rd at the Kaufman FFA Show Barn at 4:00 p.m.

2016 State Steer Tag In – June 21st
State Steer Tag In will be held at Dr. Risinger’s Vet Clinic in Terrell on June 21st , at 6:00 p.m. Please Do Not arrive before 6:00 p.m. This is for ALL MAJOR shows validation ONLY!!!

2016 Fall Heifer Validation
Fall Show Heifer Validation is for the State Fair of Texas and the Heart of Texas Fair junior heifer shows.  We will be validating on June 23rd at the Kaufman FFA Barn at 4 p.m.  We are verifying June 30, 2016 ownership, registration paper upload and physical validation. A $10.00 per heifer fee will be collected. PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD YOUR HEIFERS TILL DIRECTED.

** Heifers validated last fall will not need to be validated unless there has been a change in breed or ownership.**

Texas 4-H Congress

Texas 4-H Congress allows 4-H members to experience the law making process first hand by writing, submitting, and then serving as a member of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Press, or as a Lobbyist. From these roles, the 4-H members determine the fate of each bill submitted.

Costs

A select number of 4-H delegates will be allotted to each district, urban counties, Prairie View Cooperative Extension, and the 4-H Military Program. Contact the local county extension office in the Spring of 2016 for information on how to apply to attend.

Texas 4-H Horse Validation March 1st to May 1st

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AS THERE ARE TWO SETS OF DIRECTIONS BASED ON IF YOU ARE VALIDATING A NEW HORSE FOR 2016 OR REACTIVATING A HORSE THAT WAS ENTERED LAST YEAR INTO 4-H CONNECT!
FOR THOSE ENTERING A NEW HORSE INTO 4-H CONNECT, BEFORE YOUR BEGIN YOUR VALIDATION PROCESS, YOU MUST:
• Have a family and youth member profile established on 4-H CONNECT
• Be an paid and ACTIVE youth member of Texas 4-H for the 2015-2016 year.
• For any horse which was NOT validated in 4-H CONNECT last year, have digital photos of your horse(s) from the front, left side, and right side. These photos must be accessible for upload during the validation process.
• For any registered horse that was NOT validated last year you will need to have a pdf copy of your horse(s) registration papers for upload.
IMPORTANT Horse Validation is completed for EACH HORSE and will cover all 4-H youth members in that family profile. However, when validating your horses on 4-H CONNECT, you will select ONLY ONE 4-H youth member to conduct the validation under. Once a horse is validated, validation paid, and you begin registering for district horse show, the validate horse(s) can be moved to the appropriate 4-H member(s) that will be exhibiting the horse in the show.

Texas 4-H Roundup Vet Camp

Veterinary Science Summer Camp The goal of the Texas 4-H Veterinary Science Camp is to provide experiential learning opportunities for students participating in the Veterinary Science Certification Program (VSCP). Students will learn and practice clinical skills on large and small animals, while under the supervision of a veterinarian. Students may earn 33 of the 78 skill hours required for the VSCP certification process.
• Cost: $150.00 (includes room, meals, materials, and Texas 4-H Roundup registration fee).
• Limited to the first 20 members who register. (Preference will be given to students participating in an organized veterinary science program.)
• Sign up through 4-H CONNECT under 2016 4-H Roundup (Sign up dates: April 15 − May 20, 2016)
• Open to 4-H members 11−18 years old who DID NOT attend last year.
• Drop off participants on Monday, June 6 and pick them up on Thursday, June 9 after the contest.
• Chaperones and transportation provided for all participants. Tentative Schedule Monday, June 6, 2016: 1:00 PM registration Thursday, June 9, 2016: 4-H Vet Science Skillathon (at 4-H Roundup) Parents or agents may pick up members at the conclusion of the contest (approximately 2:00 PM). Record Book Time!!

Record Books and Awards/Scholarship Applications –Deadline June 17th
June 18th might seem like a long time away but trust me, that day comes sooner than you know it.
Four record book workshops have been scheduled at the Extension office on:

May 19th at 6:30 p.m. Introduction to record books Showgrounds
June 4th from  9a.m. -12 Noon  at the Extension office Assistance with books
June 17th by 5 pm Turn in Books and award applications for judging.

June 18th is judging day.  If you would like to help judge please contact the office.
