4-H Dairy Goat Reminder

Reminder:  4-H Dairy Goat Club meeting-first for the 2012-2013 year.  

Date: Tuesday, August 21

Time: 6:30 PM

Location: Kaufman County Extension Office

Details: We will spend a little time getting to know each other, look at the events planned for each meeting, discuss and finalize paperwork for the State Fair of Texas shows (deadline Sept. 1), introduce the new 4-H year, and look at other upcoming shows and clinics. 

Bring: Goat stories-even goats in the city have skills!

If you have or want to learn more about dairy goats, come join us.  We have a fun year planned with some new and exciting events.  If you have any questions please let me know.

County Fair Validation Day and Entry for County Fair CHANGED!!!

Please note in your calendars that the day to validate your Market Hogs, market lambs, market goats, Commercial Does that do not have registration papers that you will need to be tagged in for the county fair on January 7th from 8 - 10 am at the County Fair Grounds.

Entries for the County Fair (ie - breeding heifers, market rabbit pens, broiler orders, breeding rabbits, ag mech entries, dairy goats, etc) will need to be turned into the county office by January 4th for Carrie to sign your entries.  Entries not signed will not be validated by the extension office for showing.

Soon the Showboard will have an active website (http://www.kcjls.com) to get the rules and entry forms to download.  They will also be available on the Kaufman County Extension Website.

Seniors that are looking for the Kaufman County Junior Livestock Show Scholarship Application.... those will be available soon on both websites.

October Dairy Goat Meeting Rescheduled

Hi all,

The October Dairy Goat Club meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday October 18 at 6:30 PM.  We will be working with goats on showmanship so the location has been changed.  If you are a club member you should have received directions to the location.  Anyone else that is interested in attending this meeting please contact me for more information.

Kaufman 4H Dairy Goat Club Rocks the Texas Fair

This past weekend the Kaufman 4-H Dairy Goat Club made it's presence known at the State Fair of Texas by winning multiple awards with both miniature and standard size dairy goats.  Congratulations go out to the following club members for their exceptional performance:
NDGA Show--Ella Jacobson-1st Place Jr. Showmanship, Hunter Whitley-1st Place Intermediate Costume Contest, Hayden Craft-2nd Place Senior Showmanship, Mackenzie Craft-2nd Place Intermediate Showmanship.  The Craft boys also won Grand Champion Senior Doe in Milk, Reserve Champion Senior Doe in Milk and Reserve Champion Junior Buck.  In the ADGA show, Kyle Sanders won 2nd Place Senior Showmanship and 1st Place Alpine Junior Does.

Be on the lookout for more wins by this outstanding group of 4-Hers and give an extra applause to both Ella and Hunter as this was their first show!  If you want to join or learn more about dairy goats please contact your 4-H Dairy Goat club leader, James Craft.

REMINDER!!! Dairy Goat Meeting Next Week


The first Dairy Goat club meeting this 4-H year is just around the milk pail.  Mark your calendar for this Monday, September 12 at 6:30 PM.  We will meet at the County Extension Office. 

If you have dairy goats or want to learn more about Dairy Goats come join the excitement.  At this first meeting we will have fun, hear goat stories and identify what needs each other has.  Our goal is to have fun and be prepared to raise our stock and for the upcoming shows.
