Jacob Long, representative of Kaufman County, competed and won
the District 4 Texas Farm Bureau Speech Contest that was held in Celina, TX.
Jacob spoke on the free enterprise system and
how it relates to our economy and system of government. Speeches were
judged on organization, language, voice, use of notes, eye contact, and
overall persuasiveness.
As the winner, Jacob received a
$1,000 scholarship and will compete in the Texas Farm Bureau State
Contest to be held in Waco on Dec. 1. Pictured with Jacob is Charles Ray Huddleston the Farm Bureau State Director for District 4.
Winners at the state level will receive additional scholarship monies and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Savanah and Katlin Paw their way to the TOP
Katlin Lumpkin and Savanah Baugh of the Kaufman County 4-H
Dog Project participated at the Tyler Kennel Club AKC Dog Show.
Katlin
received a 1st in Conformation and a 2nd in Showmanship
with her Blue Merle Australian Shepherd.
Savanah was 3rd in
Conformation and 1st in Showmanship with her Blue Merle Australian
Shepherd.
State Fair of Texas Youth Rabbit Show
The State Fair of Texas
Rabbit show was held the last weekend of the fair and the Kaufman County
4-H Rabbit Project Members did an
awesome job in their classes. Katlin
Lumpkin received with her English Spot Rabbit a 1st in conformation,
1st fur, and Best of Breed. Abby Celella
of Poetry with her 3 Thriantas received 1st, 2nd, 3rd in conformation and Best
of Opposite Breed. Hannah Celella of
Poetry received a 1st with her Dutch
breed, 3rd Polish breed, and 4th with her Broken Holland Lop. Anna Hatcher of Forney exhibited a Broken
Holland Lop and earned a 3rd in conformation and 1st in the fur class. Ethan Reyes exhibited a Tortise Mini Rex and
won a 1st in conformation. Michelle
Reyes with her Castor Mini Rex won 1st in the conformation. Caleb Grisier showed a Silver Fox Rabbit and
won a 1st in conformation and a Best of Breed.
Tanner Grisler also exhibited a Silver Fox Rabbit and won a 1st
in conformation and Best Opposite Breed.
Savanah Baugh of Seagoville competed with her senior female Broken Mini
Rex and received 5th place.
State Fair of Texas Junior Livestock Judging Contest
Kaufman County traveled to the State Fair of Texas 4-H/FFA
Livestock Judging contest with 3 teams.
The Junior Team of Dylan Heathcock, Dakota Jones, and Kevin Pagel placed
8th overall. In the
individual division, Dakota Jones placed 14th overall in the
questions, Dylan Heathcock placed 12th in Sheep, and Kevin Pagel
placed 20th in Swine out of 206 contestants.
The Senior Team of Dakota Heathcock, Jacob Long, Chase
Raymond, and Cammi Selby placed 1st in the Sheep Team Division and 6th
in the Swine Division. Individually
Jacob Long placed 3rd in the Sheep Division, Dakota Heathcock placed
8th and Chase Raymond placed 9th. Cammi Selby placed in the top 20 in the
Swine and Lamb Divisions out of 330 contestants.
State Fair of Texas Junior Heifer Show
The State
Fair of Texas provides an annual opportunity to showcase the state’s livestock
industry. The hundreds of thousands of visitors who attend the show during its
24-day run include people from nations outside of the United States. Attracting
approximately 3,500 4-H and FFA students from across the state of Texas who
will exhibit over 4,000 animals for two separate purposes: breeding and
marketing.
Results for the Youth Maine Anjou Beef Heifer show starting with the Overall Grand Champion
Winner Hailey Hawes of Crandall, TX.
Also showing in the Youth Maine Anjou Show was Emily Jenkins of Crandall
winning 1st with her junior calf heifer and Cassidy Urive also of
Crandall placing 2nd with her junior calf heifer.
From the Junior Angus Heifer Show Micah Stahlman received
the Junior Calf Division Champion for her January Junior Calf Heifer and
Reserve Champion with her February Junior Calf Heifer, Clarissa Perez of Forney
was the Intermediate Heifer Calf Champion, Brooke Adams had the Junior Heifer
Division Champion with her April Junior Yearling Heifer. Also showing Junior Angus Heifers for Kaufman County 4-H was Jacob Long of
Forney placing 3rd with his Junior Calf Heifer.
During the Junior Shorthorn Heifer Show Ben Gosnell of Terrell placed 2nd
with his March Heifer calf, Cami Cunningham of Kaufman placed 2nd with
her February Heifer Calf and Gauge Cunningham of Kaufman placed 2nd
with his Early Spring Yearling Heifer.
The Rebekah Jo Gosnell was Reserve Champion Intermediate Division Junior Limousin Heifer
with her Late Summer Yearling Heifer, 1st with her Winter Heifer
Calf and 2nd with her Junior Yearling Heifer. Shelby Wheeler of Wills Point was 4th
with her Winter Heifer Calf.
Finishing out the show was Morgan Nugent winning the
Division Champion Junior Heifer Division for the Simmental Show. Michael Hawes
with his ORB Heifer placing 8th in the Junior Heifer Class. Destiny Harrison was third in the Beefmaster
Late Yearling Heifer Class.
State Fair of Texas Junior Market Swine Show
Kaufman County 4-H Member Dakota Jones of Poetry, made it to
the State Fair of State Junior Livestock Sale with her Market
Barrow. Also showing for Kaufman County
4-H was Jacob Reznicek who received a 6th place with his Other Pure
Bred heavy weight barrow, Jaylyn Arrington showing her Hampshire Medium Weight
Barrow, Savannah Jones with her medium weight Cross and Blain Murrey exhibiting his Dark Cross Barrow.
