INTRODUCTION: THIS PROJECT IS NOT A PART OF THE ELLIS
COUNTY YOUTH EXPO MARKET DIVISION, THEREFORE, ELLIS COUNTY 4-H & FFA
MEMBERS CAN SELL IN THIS PROGRAM AS WELL AS IN THE ELLIS COUNTY YOUTH EXPO
MARKET AUCTION. (EXAMPLE: YOU CAN SELL A PEN OF HEIFERS IN ADDITION TO A SWINE,
LAMB, BROILERS, RABBITS, STEER OR GOAT).
1. This show is limited to
projects owned, fed and cared for by Ellis, Hill, Kaufman, Navarro, and Johnson
County 4-H and FFA members in good standing and under the supervision of the
Agricultural Science Teachers and County Agents. Participants must be enrolled
in a public or private school of less than college level for the 2014-2015 school
year and must have entered 3rd grade and be 8 years of age, and be
in good standing with their FFA chapter or 4-H club.
2. Eligibility Forms will be
required at Check In for show. An
exhibitor ineligible, according to his/her school administration, will not be
permitted to have an entry shown at the Ellis County Youth Commercial Heifer
Show and Sale. Students not eligible the entire length of show will not be
permitted to have an entry.
3. All heifers must be owned and
in possession of the exhibitor on and after tag-in date.
5. In the event that more than one
exhibitor in a family tags in heifers, the heifers may be tagged in under the
family name. However, the heifers must be declared to an individual exhibitor
upon final check-in at the show.
6. Commercial heifer entries are
highly encouraged to come from producers in Ellis or participating and surrounding
counties, but must be purchased within the state of Texas.
7. Commercial heifer entries must
be less than two years of age at tag-in date. Any heifer with eruption of adult
incisors will not be allowed to enter.
8. All heifers must be Brucellosis calf hood vaccinated by the
initial tag-in. They must have a metal calf hood vaccination tag and a legible
tattoo in their ear. If the tag is missing or the tattoo is unable to be read,
the heifer will not be eligible to be tagged in for the show.
a). All
heifers will be vaccinated for the following before or at tag-in:

All heifers must be dehorned and scared over before the show date of
October 24, 2015.
9. Heifers will not be required to
be halter broken; however, the heifers must be in such disposition that would
allow close viewing by the judge.
11. All heifers must comply with
Texas Animal Health Commission rules governing entry in the show. All heifers
entering show must have current health papers.
12. All bred heifers must be
palpated at least 60 days pregnant, as stated on official health papers after
inspection by a certified veterinarian. A copy of the paperwork is due by
October 1, 2015 to ECYCHSS in care of the Ellis County Extension office 701
S.I-35 E Waxahachie, TX 75165. You may
also email paperwork to ecychss@gmail.com
13. Bring original health papers
to check-in at the show. The original will go to the buyer, one copy is for the
Texas Animal Health Commission and one copy is for the show committee.
14. Heifers will be checked in for
the show on October 22, 2015 from 3pm to 9 p.m. at the Ellis County Youth Expo
Center.
15. A record book of the
exhibitor’s heifer project must be turned in to the committee.
a)
Record book must be turned in at check in
on October 22, 2015. Do not turn in record book to the Ellis County Extension
Office or Agriculture science teachers.
Must be typed and may have photos. Senior Sales Flyers are due October 1, 2015
b) Completed CURRENT academic eligibility forms must be turned in to show officials at Check In
on October 22, 2015. DO NOT INCLUDE THEM IN YOUR RECORD
BOOK!
• Failure of an exhibitor to turn in the record
book by the due date of October
22, 2015 and participate in the interview session will
result in complete disqualification from the show. This
disqualification results in exhibitor(s) being eliminated from any record
book awards AND from showing
and selling their
pen
of heifers in the Ellis County Youth
Commercial
Heifer
Sale.
Disqualification will result in forfeiture of all consignment
and entry
fees.
c)
The record book/interview portion
of this contest will have a junior and senior division. Juniors will be 9 years
old (or 8 in the 3rd grade) to 13 years old. Seniors will be 14 to 19 years
old. Ages are to be determined as of August 1, 2014. Record books are due at
Show Check In. NO EXCEPTIONS!
16. Pens of heifers will be judged
on October 24, 2015 at 9 a.m.
18. In order to comply with the
national law on the Beef Check-Off, two dollars ($2.00) will be deducted from
the sale price of each heifer.
19. All heifers entered in this
program and sold become property of the buyer and will remain sold. It is the
responsibility of the exhibitor to make arrangements with the buyer on delivery
or pick up of the heifers.
20. All exhibitors will be
required to feed, water, and care for their heifers until the heifers are
released to the buyer Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 5 p.m. and must be removed
from the grounds no later than 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015.
21. All exhibitors will have an option to recite or read a
summary of their project while standing in front of their pen of heifers before
their heifers are sold at the auction. The summary should focus on the heifers,
their breed and sire breed.
22. All exhibitors will be
pre-stalled with numbers on pens prior to arrival.
23. The Herdsman award, Jr. Division
and Sr. Division, will be given out at the Heifer Sale to the exhibitor who
scores highest on the combination of the interview, recordbook and of the
condition of their pen area and care for their heifers throughout the show and
sale.
24. The Commercial Heifer
Committee reserves the right to amend these rules with the approval of the
Board of Directors of the Ellis County Youth Commercial Heifer Show and Sale.
25. Commercial Heifer Committee
act as agents only for the exhibitors. All guarantees are between buyers and
sellers.
26. There will be no harassment of
the judges prior to, during or after the show. The judge will give reasons for
the placings and that will be considered adequate explanation of the placings.
27. This program is designed to be
educational and beneficial to the youth of Ellis County. Any parent or
exhibitor who does not adhere to the rules pertaining to the Commercial Heifer
Show may be banned for a period of one (1) year from exhibition in this
program.
28. Each exhibitor in the
Commercial Heifer Auction Sale shall report to the Ellis County Youth Expo, Sunday,
October 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm for grounds clean-up. Failure to report will result
in a $50.00 deduction from the exhibitor’s check.
30. In the event that an exhibitor’s heifer(s)
loses an official Ellis County Youth Commercial Heifer Show and Sale tag, it is
the responsibility of the exhibitor to notify the Commercial Heifer Show
Committee as soon as possible so the heifer may be re-tagged.
31. There will be no
alcohol allowed on the grounds during the show or sale!
32. There will be (2)
Two divisions in the show:
a. Open Division Heifers
16 months and younger
b. Bred Division Heifers
17 months and older
33. All exhibitors will
be required to have passed the Quality Counts Verification test for their age
group. Each Exhibitor will need to have their Quality Counts Verification
number by tag-in. – see listing on important dates
34. Sale order will be
Overall Grand, Reserve overall Grand, and then the next highest placing Bred
Pen, followed by the next highest placing open pen.

Arnold will be offering a CEU cattle class on Friday and there will be
potential buyers in the class. They will
take a portion of class time to view and discuss the cattle.
Due to the class there
will be someone on hand if you would like to come Friday morning to drop off
your cattle early)

There is a $50.00 deduction from
your check if you do not show to help clean up.
(Dinner will be provided following the cleanup of the grounds and we
will discuss the show – as a committee we value this time to get your feedback
and learn how we can improve for the following year.)
